Mingqian Shifeng Longjing comes from Shifeng, or Lion Peak, in Hangzhou’s West Lake Longjing tea area. Shifeng is a distinctive traditional mountain site within the first-level protected West Lake Longjing zone. “Mingqian” refers to tea harvested before the Qingming Festival, during the short early-spring picking period.
This tea is picked to a one-bud-and-one-leaf standard and handmade using traditional pan-firing techniques. The finished leaves are flat, straight and tender green. Once brewed, the liquor is clear and bright, with fresh bean, chestnut and clean green-tea aromas. The taste is fresh, mellow and refined, followed by a naturally lingering sweetness.
Shifeng Mountain is one of the traditional mountain areas within the first-level protected West Lake Longjing zone. Differences in terrain, sunlight and microclimate contribute to the individual character of the various West Lake tea-growing areas.
“Mingqian” means that the tea is harvested before the Qingming Festival. This early-spring period is relatively short and is valued for producing a fresh and refined style of green tea. This product combines its Shifeng origin, one-bud-and-one-leaf picking standard and traditional handmade production in a tea designed for careful appreciation.
Fresh bean and chestnut aromas form the main flavour profile. The first sip is clean and refreshing, followed by a smooth and mellow sweetness through the mid-palate. The finish remains clear and naturally sweet, with a lingering returning sweetness after the tea has been swallowed.
Clear-glass method: Pre-warm the glass and add approximately one-third of the required 80–85°C water. Add the tea leaves and gently turn the glass to moisten them evenly, then fill to approximately 150ml. Begin drinking after about 60 seconds. Refill when approximately one-third of the liquor remains to maintain a smoother transition between infusions.
Porcelain-gaiwan method: Pre-warm the gaiwan, add the tea leaves and slowly pour approximately 150ml of 80–85°C water along the side. Decant the first infusion fully after approximately 60 seconds. Extend each later infusion gradually according to the preferred strength. Pouring out each infusion completely prevents the tender leaves from continuing to steep between servings.
Rinsing is generally unnecessary for this tender Mingqian green tea. Avoid continuously boiling water or prolonged covered steeping. If the liquor becomes noticeably astringent, reduce the temperature or shorten the infusion. If it tastes too light, increase the amount to 3g or extend the infusion slightly.
Store sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, moisture, heat and strong odours. To retain the fresh aroma for longer, the fully sealed package may be refrigerated. Allow the sealed package to return completely to room temperature before opening to reduce condensation.
